The Scotsman, Edinburgh

CDA won the limited design competition to design the new head office for The Scotsman newspaper in a prominent historic setting between the Old Town and Holyrood Park.

The design takes advantage of the unique site with a central atrium space extending from the formal frontage, through the length of the building, to open up in a glazed garden wall to terraces facing the Salisbury Crags and the Park.

Planned on three levels with services and parking in the semi-basement, the 116,000 sq ft building is highly efficient in energy use. The design responds to the brief for flexible office space but neatly contains

The Scotsman’s three main newspaper divisions with editorial and boardroom spaces grouped round the terraces and with views across the park.
