Banana Warehouse, York

Banana Warehouse is a new Hotel development for Axcel Group, located in York town centre. It provides 168 rooms over fourth floors with restaurant, bar and garden amenities.

Occupying a highly sensitive position opposite to Clifford’s Tower, the site is located in the Central Historic Core Conservation Area and also within the Castle Gateway Area. CDA has been instrumental in dealing with the multiple challenges of the site, particularly planning limitations, archaeologist rests and flood risk.

Cladding finishes have been combined carefully to replicate local materials found in the conservation area. CDA is also working closely with the client to apply new construction methods, including modular construction.

The proposed scheme respects the heritage interest of York but also it complements other development coming forward along Piccadilly as part of a wider regeneration initiative.
