CDA were the architects for the £20M redevelopment of a significant part of the existing town centre in Workington, Cumbria. With clients Harrison Developments, the appointment followed a two-stage design competition in 2001 co-ordinated by Allerdale Borough Council. The anchor tenant of the development is Debenhams in a 7,200 sq m three-level store. The scheme takes the form of a natural extension to the existing town centre, replacing, reinforcing and complementing well-established pedestrian routes, and involved the demolition of most of the 1960’s St Johns Precinct.
