Colnbrook

The £127M energy-from-waste facility at Colnbrook, near Heathrow Airport, includes a visitor centre and is one of the new generation of ultra-clean processes to be built and operated to meet the highest European Environmental Standards. The building has been designed to form a sculptural object in the landscape and will produce electricity for 30,000 households. Proximity to the airport, the bulk of the processing plant and height required for efficient dispersion produced the final smooth curved roof shape which minimises air resistance and echoes natural curved landforms in the area.
